The holidays are always special, we listen to happy holiday music, and see the pretty colors of red and green everywhere. we get together with friends and family and take time out to be grateful for the good things in life. But the holidays can be also stressful, keeping track of responsibilities and multi-tasking at a high level, can put a strain on your mental health, making it feel like a candle being burnt at both ends. On top of awkward situations with estranged family members, and feeling the pressures of shopping and balancing the checkbook. Here are some coping strategies for that stressful holiday season.
Mindfulness
You might ask yourself, how can I be mindful during the holiday season? You can be mindful during the holiday season by finding ways to slow it down and take some me time. If your feeling frazzled, find your safe quiet space, write down some things that your are grateful and thankful for, take a walk outside, and focus on your senses, what you see, hear, feel...
Prevent Holiday Burnout
Trying to do everything by yourself, may be a heavy load on your shoulders. It's okay to ask for help, to lessen your taskers, keep in mind that others are not mind readers, and family and friends may feel that holiday spirit and are more than happy to lend a helping hand.
Break Time
Have some me time, especially if that one family member is creating hate and discontent. Being the adult in the room, before things escalate into chaos makes you the better person and saves your mental health and your gathering.
Sunshine and Fresh Air
The winter blues can hit us all, getting some fresh air and some sunlight can certainly lift the mood and can be an effective centering and calming tool. The benefits that this provides can be, stress relief, better concentration, and improved mental focus.
Self-Care
As humans, we are pack animals, so talk to friends for support, and maintain your self-care routines such as mindfulness, gratitude journaling, healthy snacks, and exercise/yoga.
Financial Stress
Holiday spending can be stressful, a few tips for this is to look for sales, make some handy crafts, and just remember that just being present is a gift.
