Morning Meditation

Morning meditation is not just for hippies. Like me, if you spent a large portion of your life serving in the military, the only calmness that you may have experienced is the calm... before the storm. A meditation morning routine is a great way to clear your mind to enhance your ability to remain focused throughout the dayBecause regular practice allows you to develop your sense of awareness, it can help you refrain from distractions. You can be more decisive as well when you minimize a wandering mind.

Goals of Meditation- The two goals of meditation are :

  1. Focus your attention
  2. Support a heightened state of awareness

Mindfulness meditation is different from concentrative meditation is all about tuning out all the noise and distractions around you and focusing on one specific thing, like soothing music or your breathing. Mindfulness meditation is about being aware of and being in that present moment, so it is not so much about tuning out, it's more about tuning in. Morning meditation benefits may include lowering stress, decreasing anxiety, better physical health, increasing attention span, and appreciating the moment. On top of using meditation as a preventive tool, you can also benefit from it when you're dealing with the trials and tribulations of life. Karen and that mopey dopey dude giving you a hard time? Just step away for a few moments of meditation, whether it's going for a walk, or finding a nice table at a coffee shop, just you and your espresso. After I meditate in the morning, I feel grounded, and prepared to take on the day, here are a few meditation tips:

  1. Baby Steps: Just starting out, I recommend taking baby steps, starting small, with a few minutes of meditation is good, rome was not built in a day, you can work your way up to more meaningful meditation time.
  2. Guided Meditation- There are apps out there that provide guided meditations. Having someone else's voice helps guide you, makes you stay focused, and keeps you away from your negative thoughts.
  3. choose your Happy place- Choose a happy place, a place, and a spot where you feel comfortable in your mindful meditation sessions, it can be an indoor or outdoor location, it's up to you, after all, it is your happy place, tailor-made for you, as long as your comfortable.
  4. While Meditating- Sit quietly and allow your thoughts to come and go, focusing on your breathing, inhaling, and exhaling. Notice what your body is feeling from your head to your toe. Be mindful of the smells and sounds around you. When you have been doing morning meditations in the mornings for a while, start journaling any thoughts or aha moments that came up during your sessions, and when you look those over it may lead to self-discovery.

Finding Your Tribe

As combat veterans, we've traversed the treacherous landscapes of war and returned home, forever changed by our experiences. The transition from the battlefield to civilian life is often fraught with challenges, leaving many of us feeling adrift in a world that seems alien and indifferent to our struggles. In times like these, finding our tribe – a community of fellow veterans who understand our journey – becomes not just important, but essential for our well-being. Purpose Driven Warriors

Purpose-driven warriors are those who are driven by a sense of purpose and who align their personal and career goals with a higher purpose. These warriors can inspire others to achieve great things, create a positive impact on society, and ultimately achieve long-term success. A purpose-driven warrior knows no boundaries or failures too big to handle and pursues their dreams and goals no matter what. There are things that purpose-driven warriors do: Positive Outcome Focus To become a purpose-driven warrior, the primary focus must be on the positive outcome, the outcome that you're trying to receive, instead of any potential negative outcomes. Practicing this technique will push any negatives to the back burner. Failure is your Friend Failure can be an obstacle to success, failure is not permanent, you fall down, dust yourself off, and keep moving forward, just reflect and learn from these life experiences. Self-Awareness Being self-aware will give you an outward perspective on your...
